2 pairs vs 3 pairs

HERE's the FLIP : 7-J-K-2-J

MY HAND : 7-K

my opponent : 8-K

I was told i lost the hand . Can someone explain to me why I lost here?

what I don't get is why the 7 is irrelevant there

Hey Jay, if this is still bothering you:

In poker, your hand can only be 5 cards. 3 pair would use 6 cards, so it is not a viable hand. In this example, your best 5 cards were K-K-J-J-7, whereas your opponent's best 5 cards were K-K-J-J-8.
