Universities pride themselves on creating an environment for the open sharing of ideas. Part of the principle for this sharing is the agreed upon concept that the falsification or alteration of evidence harms the research process. Universities, unlike other institutions, have a stake in maintaining the integrity of the work that is produced and linked to the reputation of the institution. Following in the wake of entire Graduate business school classes being expelled, see Duke University, it is incredibly important to understand the risks and penalties for a failure to maintain the quality of work that is intended to unify and grow with factual evidence that is testable being the root measurement of success.
