As of 2008, the world's population was about 6.7 billion people. The population of the United States in 2008 was 305 million.

The area of New York City is 305 square miles. If in 2008 every person in the world moved into New York City, how many square feet of space would each person have? Note: There are 5280 feet in a mile. First determine how many square feet are in a square mile. (Round your answer to one decimal place.)

1 sq mile = 5280*5280 sq ft

 

Area of NYC = 305 sq mile = 305*5280*5280 sq ft

 

If every person in the world moves to NYC i.e. 6.7 *10^9 people move

 

Area per person = 305*5280*5280/(6.7*10^9) sq ft

= 1.27 sq ft or 1.3 sq ft
