How are Hebrew names translated?

Question

If someone with some basic knowledge/experience could help me out that would be awesome. I’m insanely interested in the Hebrew traditions around naming children, etc. So far all I’ve been doing is googling Hebrew versions of names. Sometimes I’ll find a modern spelling in Hebrew (which is what I’m looking for) but I’m curious as to how one actually translates a name into Hebrew? What’s the process behind it?

From what I know, people who do not live in a Hebrew speaking country have a Hebrew name which can sometime differ from their given, day to day, name. I think it mostly because some Hebrew name are hard to pronounce correctly with Latin based languages. When translating one's name to Hebrew, the question is what does your name means? Rather then how do we translate it in to the Hebrew language.
