Curious about pronunciation

Question

Why is ראש spelled with an א but is pronounced like it has a ו? I can’t think of any other examples like this but I was curious if any of you good folks knew. תודה רבה...מראש

Hi,

Ro'sh (ראש), just like Lo (לא), has Holam haser (חולם חסר) spelling, which is basically provides a the Oh sound, like a Vav (ו) with a dot on top, AKA Holam malah (חולם מלא).
