How to say "We must allow X to Do Y" or "We Mustn't Let X do Y"

I'm trying to translate the following sentence: "We must not allow the facts to fade away into oblivion." In general, how do we write constructs like this? I think the construct would look something like "אסור לנו ל", but I'm not sure the word "אסור" fits here since the word "must" isn't used in a religious/legal sense, but in a purely ethical sense.
