The One Thousand and One Nights is an example of a classical work of Persian literature. It was written in both Sanskrit and Persian. The name of the main storyteller in the book, Shahrazade, is thought to be Persian in origin. The famous story of Aladdin comes from this book. In this story, Shahrazade tells her husband, the king, stories each night to delay him from killing her as he has killed his past wives. Each night she leaves him wanting another story and so saves her life.
