“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” ‭‭ John‬ ‭15:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬ Also should this be vertical or horizontal?

Per my Hebrew-English NKJV,

.אין אהבה גדולה מאהבתו של הנותן את נפשו בעד ידידיו

Also, definitely horizontal. Hebrew tattoos are confusing vertically.
