OK.  You need to isolate a.  To do this, begin by subtracting b and c from each side.

 

This makes P = 2a + b + c

                 P - b - c = 2a.

 

Divide each side by 2, giving

 

(P - b - c)/2 = a

 

Or a = P/2 - b/2 - c/2
