A trapezoid requires only that one set of sides is parallel, while a parallelogram must have two different sets of parallel sides. If you have either shape, it doesn't also have to be the other, but a trapezoid might sometimes be a parallelogram if it coincidentally has two sets of parallel sides. The rest of the time, it isn't true.
