|7-a|= 0,       if  a=7

|7-a|=-(7-a)  if  a>7

 

i)a<7

3(7-a)=12

7-a=4

a=3

 

ii) a=7. In this case, there is no solution(s)

 

iii) a>7

-(7-a)=4

a=11

So the solution set is {3, 11}.
