You are remodeling your bathroom and decide to install a tile floor. The bathroom is in the shape of a rectangle, and the floor measures 14 feet 8 inches long by 5 feet 6 inches wide. The tiles you want to use cost $5 each, and each tile covers 4 2/3 square feet. The hardware store will only sell tiles in whole units. For example, you cannot buy one-half of a tile.

How much money will you spend on this project?

Find the total area of the floor and divide it by the area of one tile.

 

14.67 ft x 5.5 ft = 80.685 ft²

80.685 ft²/4.67 ft² = 17.28

 

So you will need 18 tiles.  Since they are $5 each, how much will this cost you?

 

P.S. In real life always buy a few extra.  You might break one or two and need them, or you can return what you don't use for a refund!
