Lets pick 5 numbers like 0,1,2,3,and -1
Set up a table like This:
X y=F(x)
---------------------
-1
0
1
2
3
Now we need to figure out the numbers that go in the second column under y = F(x)
The first number is 0. So where-ever you see the X, you put zero.
F(0) = 0 + 2, which is 2. So 2 goes next to the zero in the table.
The next number is 1. So where-ever you see the X, you out one (1).
F(1) = 1+2 , which is 3. So 3 goes next to the one in the table.
LIkewise, for X=2, F(2) = 2 + 2 = 4. So 4 goes in the table next to the 2.
forf X=3, F(3) = 3 + 2 = 5. So 5 goes in the table next to the 3.
Finally, for x=-1, F(-1) = -1 + 2 = 1. So one (1) goes next to -1 in the table.
The table now looks like this:
X y=F(x)
---------------------
-1 1
0 2
1 3
2 4
3 5
---------------------
-1 1
0 2
1 3
2 4
3 5
Now get you a sheet of graph paper and plot the points
(-1,1) (0,2) (1,3) (2,4) (3,5)
They will line up. Each dot will be two square up and one square
to the right of the previous one.
