answer: substitute -9 in place of x in the expression on the right side. The answer is a numerical value.

 

This should have been taught, with EMPHASIS, in class and in your textbook--it's very essential & basic.

 

("solve" is not the appropriate word, here; you SOLVE an equation, to find what x values make the equation true.)
