Angie's time is A.

That's 0.6 less than Sophie's time, so 

Sophie's time is A+0.6.

 

Now we can write two equations:

For Angie, D = 5.4A

For Sophie, D = (4.9)(A+0.6)

 

Since D is the same for both,

5.4A = (4.9)(A+0.6)

5.4A = 4.9A + 2.94

0.5A = 2.94

A = 5.88 hours

 

Plug into either equation to find D.

D = 5.4A = (5.4)(5.88)

D = 31.752 miles
