Let's subtract 2 from both sides...

-c=3

Let's multiply both sides by -1...

(-1)(-c)=(-1)(3)

c=-3

Let's check our work...

-c+2=5

-(-3)+2=5

A negative of a negative number is a positive number...

3+2=5

5=5
