Write an equation of the line through (-2,1) and parallel to x=0. Write the equation using function notation.

When x = 0, that means that the line is perfectly horizontal at the y-axis. That is, no matter what the value you have for y, x will always have the value of 0.

y = 0? x = 0

y = 10? x = 0

y = 12345? x = 0

y = -7546365221? x = 0

 

This means we just need to look at the x-coordinate of your point: -2

That means we need to make it a vertical line here as well, so f(x) = -2

The graph of x = 0 is a vertical line (graph it to see for yourself!).

A line parallel to x = 0 is a vertical line.

The vertical line passing through (-2, 1) is x = -2.
