Jill has $10,000 to invest into two accounts.  One account pay 8% the other pay 6% intrest.  She would like ot earn $710 in total intrest.  How much should she invest in each account?

a + b = 10,000

.08a + .06b = 710

 

a = 10,000 - b

 

.08(10,000 - b) + .06b = 710

800 - .08b + .06b = 710

-.02b = -90

b = 4500

 

a = 10,000 - 4500 = 5500
