Start by distributing the 5 to everything in the parenthesis.
Thus you would have 4 = 5p - 10
We are trying to isolate p so move the 10 to the other side of the equals sign by adding.
4 +10 = 5p -10 +10 The 10's on the right will cancel, and on the right do the adding.
14 = 5p Now a number next to a variable is multiplying.
The opposite of multiplying is dividing, so divide both sides by 5.
14/5 = 5p/5
14 = p (The solution)
