ian and ashley budgeted 5,500 for their honeymoon in the south pacific . they spent $2,100 on a cruise .$1,800 air fate   $500 on souvenirs. and $148 on special dinner. how much more or less did ian and ashley spend than they budgeted. please indicate if they spent more or less as well as the dollar amount

Since the couple spent $4548 on their honeymoon, they were favorably "underbudget" (i.e., they spent LESS than budgeted) by $5000 - $4548 = $952.  This is goodness because they now have an extra $952 in their pockets :-) !!!  

 

We would say they were "overbudget" (i.e., they spent more than their budgeted amount of $5,500) had they spent anything over $5,500!

Answer 2

Add the four amounts they spent. If it is more than 5,500, then the answer is more. If it is less than 5,500, the answer is less.

 

To find out how much more or less, take the total minus 5,500, or 5,500 minus the total, depending on which is more.
