He Chelsea, first you should try to isolate all of the variable values, x, into one value. This should be done by expanding the parentheticals...remember that the - before the second parenthesis applies throughout all the terms in the parentheses!
x+6 - (2x+7) - 3x = -9
x+6 - 2x - 7 - 3x = -9
Now we can gather all the x's into one term...
x-2x-3x +6 - 7 = -9
-4x + 6 -7 = -9
...and now simply solve for x!
-4x = -9 - 6 + 7
-4x = -8
4x = 8
x = 2
We can verify that this is the correct value for x by plugging it back into the original equation and making sure both sides are equal:
(2 + 6) - (4 + 7) - 6 = -9
8 - 11 - 6 = -9
-3 - 6 = -9
-9 = -9
Therefore, we have the correct value for x!

[x + 6] - [2x + 7] - 3x = -9
First, let's distribute the negative sign among both parts of the [2x + 7] term:
x + 6 - 2x - 7 - 3x = -9
Now we will combine all the terms that have x:
(x - 2x - 3x) + 6 - 7 = -9
x(1 - 2 - 3) - 1 = -9
-4x - 1 = -9
Now we want to isolate x by adding 1 to both sides of the equation, then dividing by -4:
-4x = -8
x = -8/-4
x = 2

There are 4 steps to take , in order to solve linear one variable equations.
1. Simplify both sides: ( using order of operation)
( X + 6 ) - (2X +7 ) - 3x = -9
X+ 6 - 2X - 7 - 3X = -9
- 4X - 7 = - 9 after this step maximum terms in each side should be 2 , for X , and constant.
2 . Move variable term to one side, and constants to other. the sign of the term to be moved should
be changed.
-4X = -9 + 7
3. Simplify both sides after the 2nd step.
-4X = -2
4 . 3rd step should simplify the equation to mx = n , where m, and n are constants.
then X =n/m , in this example m = -4, n = -2
X = -2/ -4 = 1/2.
These 4 steps can solve any equation with any complexity.
