How much does a 3/4 bag cost?

Problem: The bag of peanuts shown is on sale for $9.30. The Pep club wants to divide the larger bag into 3/4 pound bags to sell at football games. A large bag is 5 pounds

 

I want to make sure I am answering this right 

 

5/1 x 4/3 = 20/3

 

I got 3/4 = 6.67

 

the price of a 3/4 bag is: $6.67???

Robert your arithmetic is correct. You did not interpret it correctly.

20/3 is the number of small bags they can get out of a 5 lb bag.

So they only get 6 full small bags.

The cost of each small bag is

$9.30 / 6

$1.55

You have a 5 lb bag, splitting them into 3/4 lb bags:

 

5 lb ÷ (3/4 lb) = 20/3 bags  (which means you can only make 6 complete 3/4lb bags)

 

$9.30 ÷ (20/3 bags) = $1.395 = $1.40

 

There is a caveat, if you consider that you can only make 6 bags, then it would be $1.55    ($9.30/6)  with some leftover peanuts.
