F(x) = x2 + 6x + 8
Since we need to find the axis of symmetry and the vertex, lets put F(x) in vertex form.
F(x) = a(x - h)2 + h
where:
a = coefficient of x2 term
The vertex is (h, k).
F(x) = (x2 + 6x + 9) - 1
F(x) = (x + 3)2 - 1
The vertex is (-3, -1).
The x-coordinate of the vertex is -3
The axis of symmetry is x = -3
