If "a" is a zero of a polynomial the x - a is a factor.

 

P(x) = (x - 5)(x + 4)(x - 1)

 

Multiply out to determine polynomial.

x=5, x=-4, and x=1

(x-5)(x+4)(x-1)=0

multiply

(x²-5x+4x-20)(x-1)=0

(x²-x-20)(x-1)=0

x³-x²-20x-x²+x+20=0

x³-2x²-19x+20=0
