Hi there! My name is Kyla Fury, and I'd love to help you with writing, programming, game design, and more! I'm a patient, empathetic teacher with over a decade of teaching experience who loves helping people of all skill levels, from beginners who are intimidated by the subject matter to advanced learners with a zest for pushing themselves.
I'm a writer and indie game designer with an MFA in interactive media. After graduating from USC, I worked for a game company for several years designing apps and doing VR research. After that, I spent the next decade as the Curriculum Design Lead at the EdTech company TechSmart. While there I created multiple years’ worth of CS curriculum for grades 3-12, including Python and front-end web development (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) courses. At the same time I also worked on the side as the Lead Writer for the game company EVC, eventually releasing the game "Wintermoor Tactics Club" in 2020 for PC and consoles.
I'd love to share my game industry experience, teaching general concepts like paper prototyping and design analysis or getting hands-on with the game engine Unity3D. I'm also happy to help with more general programming or CS needs. I love to help students of all ages discover an excitement for the subject as they see how far these tools can take them. I'm just as familiar training adults as younger students, so don't hesitate to approach me if you are a late learner! It's never too late to get started.
In addition to computer science and game design, I'm also well-qualified as a writing tutor. I've been writing both formally and informally for over two decades, and would be more than happy to help students with any stage of the writing process, from early planning to proofreading. Writing is a personal passion, and I'd love to share that with an equally passionate, creative student.
I live in the greater Seattle area, and am primarily looking to do online tutoring at this time.
