Hello, I'm Mr. Ray, here to help with That class. Hello, I'm Mr. Ray, here to help with That class. I have countless success stories with both young students and returning learners who felt they "just can't do/hate math" and need to get through That One pesky (stats) course that feels like it is being taught in ancient Greek. Back in 2018, I taught a high school student ALL her skipped sophomore year's chemistry and trig content in 5 weeks before her finals; she graduated on time. I'm a well-oiled machine, connecting struggling students to their dreams in everything from nursing and sports med to oil rig safety management, it's never in question. We pass that class, renew confidence, and get on track so I'm no longer needed. Period. I perceive and bridge the gaps in current understanding of the formulas and concepts, so we genuinely have fun learning the material.
My first professional experience tutoring was 2013 in the campus tutoring center, while attaining two Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and chemistry from Lewis and Clark College, graduating class of 2015. During college, my chemistry prowess led to research opportunities modeling organic chromophore structures for potential use in solar cells, yielding two publications in the Journal of Organic Chemistry. I love organic, physical, nuclear and environmental chemistry! (Happy to nerd out on why stats is cool.)
In 2016 I resumed tutoring math, stats and chemistry online through Varsity Tutors, where I taught happily for 5 years. This led me to a year of after school teaching, and later work as a vision therapist at Gabrielle Family Vision Care, helping kids improve their eyesight through daily homework exercises (think eye-tutoring physical therapy.) I've also worked as a gardener, roofer, aerospace manufacturing chemist, concrete, currently a tree climber... I like to think this gives me versatile and unique perspective compared to many tutors.
I'm looking forward to helping you rock That course.
Cheers,
Mr. Ray
