Hello everyone! My name is Abena! I am a second-year undergraduate student at Yale University majoring in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology on the pre-medicine track. I have extensive tutoring experience, serving as a science tutor in my high school's Science National Honor Society for three years. I also hosted two SAT Bootcamps on Schoolhouse.org in the top 10% of positive ratings, and I serve as a volunteer literacy tutor for elementary and middle school students during the school year.
I will be offering tutoring services for the SAT because I remember when I was preparing for it- all the resources I used, searching the internet for tips and advice, the time spent in preparation- the whole process felt very difficult, and I know how stressed students preparing for it now must feel. I also remember how rewarding it felt to get my score back and have my efforts pay off. I want to be a part of that experience and make the journey a little better for anyone I can. I also want to help students succeed in math and science subjects like biology, chemistry, algebra, geometry/trigonometry, and calculus, which can be very difficult to navigate.
I deeply care about the success of my students and prioritize a learning environment that is warm, welcoming, and informative. I incorporate a discussion-based tutoring method in which both the student and I actively contribute. I will ask questions tailored to my students' needs and provide detailed feedback to help them identify areas of improvement. I also welcome suggestions from the parents. I am easy to reach and readily available to help!
