Georgetown University; Universite de Nice, France (French and German)
My love of languages started early in life and gradually expanded as I lived in over thirty countries around the world. I am German born and multi-lingual (French, German, Nepali). Understanding cross-cultural connections is a valuable tool in the teaching of languages. My experience as a professional interpreter and translator, both for research topics and in the judicial system (county, state, and federal level) give me an edge over other educators.
I hold a degree from Georgetown University and the Universite de Nice. My studies at GU included the School of Interpretation and Translation, an internationally recognized and unique department with very rigorous standards. I am highly experienced in dealing with all age levels (K-Adult) since I conduct workshops and classes, as well as provide cultural programs and performances via my other profession.
I believe that languages are acquired both in direct and nuanced ways and I strive to bring this style of teaching into my tutoring sessions. My focus is to accommodate the needs of the individual, be they casual learning for enjoyment, structured study for school, or as a practical application towards a specific goal. I place a great deal of importance on quality achievement, rather than quantity alone, and while I expect sincere participation and practice from my students, I am also prepared to give them my full attention and devotion.
A review of material is done at the end of each class to ensure that the topic has been understood. Homework is assigned to reinforce what we have covered, and I do provide periodic evaluations.
I maintain a 24 hour cancellation policy, but will work with you to arrange another make-up time for a missed class. While most students come to me, classes may also be arranged at your home or office. Should you be outside the acceptable travel area, an additional fee may apply.
Please contact me if you wish to have a free phone consultation. It will be my pleasure to answer any further questions you may have.
Learning to think and communicate in another language opens up a whole new world and provides countless benefits for a student. I hope to be able to share my love of French with you!

Cordula is an excellent teacher and she's extremely patient. Her mastery of the French language is superb and her ability to support a student based on their level of proficiency is first rate!
Cordula was very professional and very mindful of capitalizing on the hour we spent together. She first ascertained my goals for German, and my personal requests for the lesson time, and then accomplished each of the three areas I previously requested. If you really want to learn German, I recommend her. She earns high marks from me!
My son said he enjoyed his experience and would like to continue. He liked having someone to talk French with instead of guessing how it sounds.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My work with immigrants has been extensive and in depth. Since I have lived in so many countries, I have an especially developed sense of people's cultural heritage and the challenges they face when they arrive in the U.S. My knowledge in this area has made me sought after for cultural and literal interpretation and translation in the judiciary system. My program method is immersive and keeps pace with the growing ability of my students. I have found that endless patience, a great sense of humor, and focused perseverance are wonderful motivators for those willing to learn. I sincerely enjoy helping people to "settle" into their new lives and watch them succeed!
I lived in France for quite some time and also conducted research in that language. Currently, I am a multi-lingual court interpreter/translator for the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Federal Courts.
I am German by birth and bilingual; I have lived in Germany and Austria and have strong ties to both countries. My academic background for studies in the language includes a degree from Georgetown University, as well as two semesters at Sophia Antipolis University in Nice, France. I have spent many years as a researcher and translator and also work as a federally approved interpreter for the court system. I prefer the immersion method of instruction and am able to tailor my classes to the needs and levels of my students. I place a great deal of importance on comprehensive skills - reading, writing, speaking - and often include cultural notes of interest in my sessions.
I have worked in the field of academic research and writing for over 30 years, and have had works published here and abroad. My particular qualification is editing and structuring of materials.
I am currently working on two books. Writing is part of my everyday occupation and something I truly love. I have a knack for helping people express themselves in a manner that is true to their personality.
