Hello there! I have been a professional teaching artist, actor and children's summer camp professional for over 13 years. I've taught and mentored students in the areas of writing (with a specialty in creative writing), reading and English, theatre and acting. My greatest passion is helping young learners tell their story in whatever subject they’re studying or pursuing.

I am a graduate of NYU Tisch with a BFA in Acting and Applied Theatre. While building my career as a professional actor in New York, I also pursued my educational passion by working as a professional teaching artist with students in schools in the New York area, in my hometown of Richmond, VA, and even as far away as Madagascar!

For the past 7 years I've run the creative production department of a children's summer camp organization dedicated to advancing literacy through immersive, outdoor active play. I oversee teams of adult writers, designers and actors, as well as mentoring our young campers in those disciplines as well.

I take a very tailored approach to tutoring, working with each individual student's needs and goals to design the best approach for them. I like to ask a lot of questions and get to know students’ hobbies and interests, as I like to build connections between what they’re passionate about and what they’re learning or struggling with. I pride myself on my ability to stay present during sessions and “read the room,” so that I know when we need to keep pushing or take a break before we can make more progress. I’m also big on taking some time to get “off the page”, whether it be a physical game on our feet, a role-play exercise, or a verbal game that keeps our brains active even if it’s off-topic.

I currently live in Richmond, VA with my wife and our two year-old son, with a set of twins on the way! And it's for that reason that I am looking to get back into tutoring after some years away from it, so that I can further help support our (now rapidly!) growing family.

Acting

I received my BFA in Acting from the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. I worked as a professional actor in New York in theater, film, TV and commercials for over 8 years, with a speciality in theater and live performance. I also minored in Applied Theatre at NYU, which also jumpstarted my simultaneous career as a professional teaching artist, teaching acting and performance art disciplines to students as part of in-school residencies and after-school programs.
Creative Writing

Creative Writing

My greatest passion as a tutor, mentor and teaching artist is to help young people find and exercise their creative voice, especially through writing. For the past 7 years I've led teams of dozens of adult creative writers in my full-time role as Director of Story Development, and in that role I've also mentored our young students and campers in creative writing for story development as well. Additionally as a performing arts teaching artist, I've worked with groups and individual students on playwriting as well as character writing exercises for acting.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

My essay writing was published in the highly selective Mercer Street anthology of student essays at NYU, and was invited after graduating by a former writing professor there to give essay writing advice to his students. Since then I have mentored students of all ages in their own essay writing on a variety of topics. I specialize in helping students develop their thesis, know their audience, and write powerful endings that leave a lasting impression on the reader.
Fiction Writing

Fiction Writing

As a teaching artist specializing in the performing arts, I've taught playwriting to students of all ages, with a focus on developing character and story. As the director of an immersive children's summer camp organization, I write fictional immersive experiences myself as well as lead a team of adult creative writers and designers. And in that capacity I have also mentored our students and campers for many years in the arts of creative fiction, nonfiction, personal essay, short story, genre, and immersive theatre writing.
Reading

Reading

Through my work as a teaching artist with students, especially groups like The 52nd St. Project, I have experience in tutoring kids ages 10-18 during the Project's Homework Help sessions every day after school. I specialized in helping students with subjects like Vocabulary, Reading, Writing, English, and Grammar. I have similar experience in working with high school age students from City Polytechnic School in Brooklyn through a course at NYU entitled Intercultural Collaboration with Local Teens. Using Applied Drama techniques, we helped these students, who were primarily ESL or had minor learning deficiencies, to better engage with the literary texts they were required to read through their English class.
SAT Reading

SAT Reading

Through my work as a teaching artist with students, especially groups like The 52nd St. Project, I have experience in tutoring kids ages 10-18 during the Project's Homework Help sessions every day after school. I specialized in helping students with subjects like Vocabulary, Reading, Writing, English, and Grammar, as well as specialized tests such as the ACT and SAT. I personally scored above 30 on the ACT with my highest marks being in English and Reading, and I scored above 2000 on the SAT (including Writing), with my highest marks being again on English, Reading, and Writing.
Theater

Theater

Acting is my passion and my career. In December I will graduate from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with a B.F.A. in Acting and a minor in Applied Theatre, my specialty being theatrical work with children and students of all ages, but particularly middle and high school. I currently volunteer for companies specializing in theatre work with local student populations, and as a teaching artist for a local Brooklyn high school through NYU. In my hometown of Richmond, Virginia, I worked closely with the Education Director of the Richmond Shakespeare company, both as an assistant instructor and acting partner, amongst other various educational theatre positions. In addition to my work with students, I have extensive on-stage experience as an actor in classical and contemporary work as well as physical comedy/improv, clowning, mask work including Commedia dell'Arte, stage combat, and much much more.
Writing

Writing

I grew up loving writing from a very young age, leading me to pursue primarily creative writing, with an emphasis on dramatic writing, poetry, and fiction. As part of my Personal Project for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, I wrote a 45-minute play that was then performed in front of a live audience, and also wrote a 10-page personal statement on the process. Also as part of the IB Program, I wrote a 15-page research paper called the Extended Essay, for which I received top marks. After 2 semesters of a course called Writing the Essay at NYU in which I received straight A's, I was invited to submit multiple academic and creative essays to the published NYU Mercer Street Essay Collection. Today, as Assistant Managing Director of a non-profit group, I assist with grant-writing proposals as well as various other written materials. Finally, through my work as a teaching artist with students, especially groups like The 52nd St. Project, I have experience in tutoring kids ages 10-18 during the Project's Homework Help sessions every day after school. I specialized in helping students with subjects like Vocabulary, Reading, Writing, English, and Grammar.
