Hello there! I have been a professional teaching artist, actor and children's summer camp professional for over 13 years. I've taught and mentored students in the areas of writing (with a specialty in creative writing), reading and English, theatre and acting. My greatest passion is helping young learners tell their story in whatever subject they’re studying or pursuing.
I am a graduate of NYU Tisch with a BFA in Acting and Applied Theatre. While building my career as a professional actor in New York, I also pursued my educational passion by working as a professional teaching artist with students in schools in the New York area, in my hometown of Richmond, VA, and even as far away as Madagascar!
For the past 7 years I've run the creative production department of a children's summer camp organization dedicated to advancing literacy through immersive, outdoor active play. I oversee teams of adult writers, designers and actors, as well as mentoring our young campers in those disciplines as well.
I take a very tailored approach to tutoring, working with each individual student's needs and goals to design the best approach for them. I like to ask a lot of questions and get to know students’ hobbies and interests, as I like to build connections between what they’re passionate about and what they’re learning or struggling with. I pride myself on my ability to stay present during sessions and “read the room,” so that I know when we need to keep pushing or take a break before we can make more progress. I’m also big on taking some time to get “off the page”, whether it be a physical game on our feet, a role-play exercise, or a verbal game that keeps our brains active even if it’s off-topic.
I currently live in Richmond, VA with my wife and our two year-old son, with a set of twins on the way! And it's for that reason that I am looking to get back into tutoring after some years away from it, so that I can further help support our (now rapidly!) growing family.
