I am a recent graduate of Old Dominion University, where I majored in Psychology and graduated with a 4.0 GPA (Summa Cum Laude). I previously graduated cum laude with an Associate of Science from Brightpoint Community College and have 3-5 years of experience developing open-access educational content at Wikiversity, where I am a volunteer administrator and have been a contributor to the platform since 2010 (age 7!). My work there has predominantly been focused on creating/improving educational courses targeting a range of educational audiences, from elementary-level students to university students. Some of those resources have been used and cited by students worldwide in their assignments, which I take great glee in!
I have direct one-on-one teaching experience with middle-school-aged children, where I taught religious scripture alongside basic reading and comprehension skills. These experiences taught me how to tailor my teaching and personalize it to a student's age, background, and learning style. These are skills I apply while teaching my subjects, including Algebra I, American History, ESL, essay writing, and grammar.
My approach to tutoring is flexible based upon the student's needs, but a sample structure could go as follows: we begin with a brief check to identify gaps in learning, create learning goals with the student on how to tackle such gaps, and present content in brief but concise parts. At the end, feedback is taken from the student, and we improve the learning process based on the feedback. As a former college student myself, I can relate to where students may struggle in learning their material, and I'm dedicated to condensing dense, hard concepts into "bite-sized" nuggets of information.
Feel free to reach out to me so we can work together on your learning goals!
