English and Hungarian Tutor with 20+ Years' Experience and a Doctorate

Very early in life, I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in any field related to languages. I considered being a linguist, a translator/interpreter, a tour guide, among many others. Then came my first job: teaching. I have not looked back since as I fell in love with the profession. As a native Hungarian speaker, getting an undergraduate degree in English was a dream come true because it showed me that I had learned English at a superior level. Then came my second goal: I wanted to teach English to foreigners like I was, so I completed a Master's in Education with the concentration in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. Fate, however, blew me into a job where I ended up teaching college-level composition. To be eligible to teach literature as well, I returned to school and earned a Master of Arts in English degree. After a few years, as fate again dictated, I had to leave the on-campus teaching position I absolutely loved, so I transitioned to teaching online. Since 2005, I have been teaching English mostly online. In my position as an English professor, I have guided countless students through the sometimes choppy waters of first-year English composition, making learning grammar, rhetoric, and composition as painless as possible.

I also hold a doctorate degree in teaching and learning online.

English is the lingua franca of the world and I am proud to speak it. I experienced learning it both as a non-native speaker and as a bilingual speaker, so I can sympathize with learners who are experiencing one or the two: either trying to learn English as a foreign or second language or learning English as their first language. My understanding both sides of the learning process enables me to help my students more effectively.

I was born and raised in Hungary, but no matter how long I have lived in the United States, my ties to that beautiful Central-European country are strong. I speak the language, I visit the country frequently, I still have ties to family and friends there. I am an avi
