Having taught in the large classroom setting for many years, I was able to see that most students would have excelled more rapidly if they had been able to receive additional one-on-one instruction. The curricula and the formats under which I taught only allowed for tutoring in after-school hours. For many students, this was not feasible due to other obligations, such as jobs and family commitments.
However, I have done enough one-on-one tutoring to see the benefits that students received as a result of the extra time. In all cases, I was able to define the underlying deficiencies for the student, subsequently prescribe a study plan in which the students were able to literally teach themselves to overcome their areas of weakness. This method had tremendous effects on students' level of self-confidence. This has been noted in learners ranging from middle-school age to college age.
With a Bachelor's degree in Education, English (ELA) concentration, and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, concentration, Distance Learning (online instruction), I have spent many hours studying the learning styles of all types and levels of learners. I have utilized individualized strategies to help students prepare for standardized tests, revise and edit essays, improve public speaking, and analyze literary devices. Additionally, I have a passion for breaking poor grammar habits! Bottom line, I love teaching and tutoring English Language Arts.
I'm eager to get started to help all students get on top of the learning game!

She was very honest about her knowledge and expertise. She allowed me to have time to assess her and decide if she was the tutor I was looking for. She also helped editing my proposal. Thanks Melba, I really appreciate speeding time with you.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As a mandate for Texas ELA teachers, I mastered the recently required state test to teach writing.
Therefore, I look forward to helping you.
I have extensive experience teaching middle-school language subjects. My method of teaching "the structure" of the English language has proven to be successful. I love to highlight grammar tips, tricks, and games which make learning fun.
I am an experienced teacher who has taught middle and high school literature classes.
High school graduation requirements include elective courses, such as Speech, Public Speaking, and Communication Application. My Texas SBEC records will verify that I am certified in Texas to teach SPEECH, often listed as COMMUNICATION APPLICATION.
I have taught three semesters of this course in the past five years.
While tutoring writing, I will take you through a process that you can take away and proudly own. I have taught proven strategies that bring out the best in students who often felt that they could never accomplish their writing tasks.
Let me take you to a level that will build not only your skills, but your confidence as well.
