Being a former school teacher myself for the past 10 years and private tutoring for the past 6 years, I have much experience for what your child needs to know and how to properly teach them to succeed. For all new students, I am tutoring online and in the Fort Worth area. Being a former school teacher myself for the past 10 years and private tutoring for the past 6 years, I have much experience for what your child needs to know and how to properly teach them to succeed. I use real-word examples, drawings, videos, examples and common word problems and how to solve them that many students have problems with that your child encounters in school on a daily basis that our goal is for your child to relate to and in turn be able to bring that to pencil and paper assisting your child in working independently. Your child is in excellent hands. I use praise and positive motivation to teach and reteach what your child needs to know to reinforce what they need to be learning in the classroom. If needed I will even work with your child's teacher to find out what is needed for your child. During our weekly sessions I will even take time out to help your child complete his / her homework so that by the time you get home, homework has been completed!

To tell you a little bit about myself, my name is Clay G. and I have taught and tutored elementary (primarily math, reading, science, and social studies up to grade 6), teaching in the Dallas / Plano / Garland Metroplex for the past ten years. Besides earning my teaching certificate, special education, ESL, and principal certification, I hold two master's degrees in education. I would be happy to assist you in helping your child reach his/her full potential through my tutoring services in elementary reading, math, science, and/or social studies. Besides my general classroom experience, I also have experience teaching and working with a diversity of student populations, leading professional developments with school staff, and working with children with a full array of learning disabilities specializing in ADHD.

Children suffering from ADD/ADHD suffer from the inability to concentrate, complete work, and often lack social skills. Although medicine may be the answer for some children, there are other techniques and alternatives that can be used in helping your child learn. I have experience working with this type of child as well as providing parents and students with information and resources in finding the right tools and techniques to advance their learning.

I have been teaching in elementary now for 8 years. I have taught grades 1-3 as well as taught and tutored extensively children in grades 4-5. For the older students, my specialty is teaching them math and math concepts tackling and being able to understand the more difficult math concepts, such as problem solving (word problems), fractions, division, GCF, etc. as well as preparing them for STAAR. For the younger students, I enjoy math as well as teaching phonics and helping children to be able to read (great phonics program) and once in second grade, start to really focus on reading comprehension reading longer passages and figure out the different components that the author is trying to get across. My newest venture that I have enjoyed is helping students prepare for private school entrance exams as students must use logic and reasoning to solve problems (many times having to figure out the pattern /relationship. Also included in this is being able to read / comprehend texts as well as solve math problems.

Elementary Math

Teaching elementary math has become a great enjoyment for me. As I was not very good at math when I was younger, I understand how your child feels and know how to reverse that feeling and give your child confidence, skills, and strategies to help him / her succeed. As for my math qualifications, I currently teach a higher-level rigorous math curriculum to the students that I teach at my own school which has shown to be very successful. I have also tutored several third, fourth, and fifth graders who have been very successful on the state assessment, STAAR. I use a combinations of strategies to teach your child math such as short math education videos, manipulatives, effective websites that forces your child to practice skills as well as apply information to solve for work problems and problem solving. I also teach your child effective strategies that they can recall and use when solving all parts of the math curriculum. As I do teach the Texas TEKS and math standards for the state of Texas, I also feel it is important for your child to be competitive with other children across the U.S. so therefore I also concentrate on the U.S Common Core curriculum (more complete and rigorous)as well as teach your child the skill needed for the next grade your child will be attending.

I completed and passed my ESL Certification from the State of Texas when I started teaching seven years ago. In helping the ESL learner, I use strategies such as mnemonics, teaching spelling and grammar rules, picture and vocabulary cards, practice speaking and having conversations with different scenarios in teaching students English grammar rules, vocabulary development, and reading comprehension helping the ESL learner learn successfully. I have also taught my two sons (international adoption) how to speak, read, and write in English successfully. I am known as an excellent teacher when it comes to working with English as second language learner as many strategies work well for both the English and non-English speaker.
Phonics

As I have taught the early grades for a few years, I am well versed in teaching both phonics rules and sounds. This establishes the foundation which helps children to read, write, and comprehend. My phonics program consists of isolating and learning individual sounds, placing the individual sound within several words, and having the child figure out and remember the word(s). I use word families, daily blending (using challenging words), spelling tests, word work, memorizing spelling and phonics rules, using each of these components to make your child a confident and successful reader. I also will ask your child numerous questions to make sure they understand the phonics and spelling rules and how to apply them correctly leaving no ambiguity. I then follow up with repeated practice and exposure.
Reading

Reading

If there is one skill that students must be able to accomplish successfully, it would have to be reading fluently. Being able to read is the cornerstone and foundation of educational achievement. I have developed a successful program where your child will develop these skills as well as feel confident when they read and encounter unknown words and texts. My program consists of the basics needed to be successful reader: phonics, sight words, blending, fluency, comprehension, and writing. If needed, I can also give your child weekly spelling tests of the sounds with which they are currently struggling. I teach these skills to your child where they will not be bored with the curriculum but be encouraged to use their new skills and feel as though they never lost them. This new discovery will bring a smile!
STAAR

STAAR

I have been very successful as a math tutor for the Texas STAAR math examination at the 3rd-5th elementary grade level. My own students this year performed 21% better overall (several commended)than the previous year's students under my teaching and methods as well as my students scoring higher overall than the district average.I have also successfully tutored many 5th graders in passing the 5th grade math STAAR. I have great resources and knowledge that will help your child pass and make a big difference from their previous attempts in trying to pass the exam.

As an elementary educator and tutor, I have tutored many hours with the TAKS and STAAR exam. I can teach your child how to really read and find what the question is asking, how to eliminate potential answers and ultimately solve the problem correctly. With reading comprehension, I can teach your child the different literary structures and how the test asks these questions.

Elementary School Math

I have worked with Clay for 4 sessions now on elementary school math with my 8 year old daughter. Clay is very patient and kind he willing to do what it takes to get my daughter to understand the work. He works with my daughter to get her through her issues. He always gives me great reviews and lesson plans for the following week for my daughter and my daughter adores him and looks forward to the next lesson.
