Biology Major with Tutoring Experience

Hello, my name is Madelyn! I am an undergraduate student completing an Associate of Science at Collin College. Upon completion, I will transfer to a four-year university to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Biology. I graduated high school with 30 college credit hours completed and have since maintained my 4.0 GPA across 60 credit hours. Additionally, I excelled in high school courses, including AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and math courses up to Calculus II.

At my high school, I was a volunteer peer tutor for three years and worked primarily in algebra and chemistry tutoring. With these subjects, I helped students work through practice problems and gain a more thorough understanding of course material. This experience thoroughly developed my patience, teaching skills, and passion for tutoring. In each session, my goal was for my students to become confident in their knowledge and ability to succeed.

Additionally, my experience with tutoring students has taught me the importance of patience and teaching with more than just the next test in mind. In my studies, I have learned that the way to succeed is to understand the logical path to an answer rather than memorizing it briefly for a test. My approach to tutoring reflects this, as I focus on getting to the basis of a problem, going step-by-step, and fully comprehending the “why” behind an answer before moving on.
