Qualifications for “chemistry”

Chemistry is about what we are from; the construction of our cells, to the transmission of ideas in our brains. I am in awe of this subject matter and am always trying to learn more about it (a never ending quest) and to show others how this subject affects our daily lives. Tutoring this subject is a mighty and noble challenge and is rewarding.

I have been involved in industrial chemical research (including pharmaceutical and biotech)for over 20 years. I have instructed technicians and chemists alike and have made presentations at major industrial meetings. I have a publication in a leading analytical journal and am co-inventor on a patent in synthetic chemistry.

I struggled with organic chemistry early on, until I realized the key is "don't memorize". Of course, some basic rules should be so well-entrenched that they become almost rote, but organic chemistry is a science and when treated with the same view as physics or math, it can also be comprehended and applied to future problems.

I have helped family members and friends through their chemistry courses, and I consider myself to be innovative and well-tempered while instructing. Most importantly, I have a good sense of humor! I would welcome the challenge of leading enthusiastic learners down the path to a better understanding of organic chemistry.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is the cornerstone of understanding math and science. I attempt to help students learn how to approach problems that require discovering unknown variables from known information, and how to recognize these situations in the many different forms they can take. I am very passionate about teaching algebra, but am more passionate about students learning it and having some fun along the way as they experience how algebra can be "learnable" and even practical.

Organic Chemistry

Organic Chemistry

I have been an Organic Analytical chemist for over 20 years. I have had experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and industrial fields. I am familiar with most qualitative tests to determine functional groups, and am well-versed in infra-red analysis and HPLC and GC. I have analyzed small molecules (alcohols and glycols) by GC, and large molecules (lipids, liposomes, and surfactants) by HPLC. In addition to tutoring Organic chemistry 1&2, I also offer a unique course, Pre-Organic chemistry which serves as a bridge between General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. This course starts out as a review of important concepts from general chemistry, and then introduces the terminology, new concepts and types of problems you will see in a two semester Organic Chemistry course. This is a good course to take over the summer (4-6 weeks) and I have been successful with it.

Awesome Chemistry Tutor

Frank is very knowledgeable and he stuck to exactly what I needed to know for the class (never wasted time). He researched my topics and gave me extra informative papers and communicated through email if I had a hard time with topics. He always allowed enough time for us to go over material, and I never felt rushed. He was never late to our weekly meetings, very dependable. He helped me reach an A- in Organic Chemistry. I highly recommend Frank to other students!

Had a Good Session

Had my first tutoring session with Frank W, and it was good! He really knows his stuff and helped me get the hang of things. Super patient and made sure I understood everything before moving on. The session was laid-back but productive. Only drawback is that he's in PA and I can't have in person sessions. Overall, really happy with the experience and looking forward to more sessions with Frank W!

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Frank has helped me study chemistry in many lessons. I plan to continue sessions with him. I would recommend him to anybody needing help on their homework or preparing for lectures.

Stop scrolling through tutors. This tutor really helped my kid.

My son did not like Chemistry. His grades were not great. And no matter how much he studied, he struggled through the classwork and tests. He was failing and that was not an option. We tried some different things, even another tutor, but nothing helped. Then we tried Frank. And things started turning around. He did better on his tests and homework and understood the concepts. His grades picked up and his teacher commented that he was really improving overall. He didn't complain about tutoring sessions anymore and even requested sessions with Frank before his tests so he could review. So if you're scrolling through a bunch of tutors and wondering is this the right tutor for my kid? I highly recommend Frank. He's good with kids. He understands the subject. He was fair and flexible with his schedule. He is very reasonable cost-wise. And my son ended up the year with a better than passing grade and even signed up for Physics next year since he gained the confidence to understand Chemistry. Thank you Frank!

Amazing Tutor

Substitution and elimination reactions are haaaarrrdd, but Frank helped me understand them better! So grateful for his patience with me!

One of the best tutors my daughter had

My older daughter struggled with chem and almost failed AP chem after that, because she didn't have the basic knowledge needed for advanced class. I didn't want that experience for my younger daughter and I found Frank to help her with the material. He was very knowledgeable and patient and made material easy to understand. With his help she considered Accelerated Chem to be one of the easiest classes. We definitely will be back for more help during her AP chem. I cannot express how grateful I am. I would recommend him to anybody

We found a perfect Tutor!

Frank helps my son to catch up On his 9th grade chemistry. Frank jumped right on it and Alex started feeling more comfortable right away. We have long way to go, but I am confident we are on a right pass. Thank you, Frank!
