I'm deeply invested in teaching and learning. I have a degree in philosophy and I am preparing for graduate studies in the field, but I have had a very eclectic education. I was an advanced math student in high school, a neuroscience major for the first half of my college career, and have also dabbled in things like history, creative writing, and arboriculture along the way. My education has always been interdisciplinary and self-directed, which I always encourage in my friends and my students. I have been tutoring friends and clients for years, and now I’m doing it for a living.

I was a voracious learner from a young age, so I am always ready to help a student maintain an accelerated learning pace, whether it's to be competitive for school or just out of a burning curiosity. I have also worked with students with learning disabilities and I loved that too. Often, a little extra help is all it takes to go from “behind” to “ahead”. I understand that there can be a lot of pressure and anxiety, but I know how to help lay good knowledge foundations so that anxiety can recede and confidence can build. I went into philosophy because I have a keen sense of which questions I need to ask to push my knowledge on a subject. It is a critical skill for any learner, and I always try my best to help students ask the best questions of themselves and their teachers.

While in college, I was employed as a liaison between students and professors, so I am familiar with a lot of the problems that students can have with class structure and material. I think tutoring can be critical for clearing up those problems and bridging that gap. I've helped tutor all sorts of students for all sorts of things, including elementary school math, high school biology, college ethics, and revising graduate dissertations.

My schedule is flexible, and I am happy to work across several subjects if a student has a lot of questions or assignments. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Passages on these standardized tests can be very confusing. Sometimes, they are expecting you to know very specific concepts. Often, multiple answers are technically correct and only one is the most correct. It takes a sharp eye to see what they are looking for. I can help hone that sharp eye by explaining their grammar and syntax rules, as well as their expectations for style. I was still a strong test-taker when I was in school, so I can also help teach study skills and test-taking strategies. I had a 1540 on my SAT, 33 on my ACT, 4s and 5s in my AP classes, and two SAT IIs in the 700s.

Great teacher

Kenton helped me about philosophy. We analyzed Augustine’s Confessions and Alexander Pope’s Essay on Man. We compared the works and discussed it’s deeper meaning. Kenton was really helpful!

Engaging and patient!

Kenton was great with my teenage son who doesn’t like asking for help. He engaged in a wonderful conversation that helped my son understand what he was reading and be able to comprehend the assignments.

A Tutor who really cares

Kenton helped me review an assignment I had analyzing moral arguments. This was my first session with him, and my first session through Wyznat. I had not a clue what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. He responded so quickly, and he was flexible with my schedule. When we met, he was incredibly patient. You know when you get that teacher who seems to really care? Yeah, that was him. He seemed to genuinely care about whether or not I understood, and if I didn’t, he found news ways to explain. I did great on my assignment too. I will definitely be utilizing his help in the future. Worth every penny!

Wonderful Tutor!

Kenton helped with editing my essay for a post bac program. The message I wanted to get across became much more concise and clear with his insight. I struggle with writing, but he remained calm, caring, and supportive. When I got stuck, he asked probing brainstorming questions. He is flexible and will work with your schedule. Very knowledgeable. 5/5 stars - I highly recommend Kenton!

Truly Happy I found Kenton

Kenton has been working with my two daughters (ages 10 and 12) for several months now. He's helping them with writing and solving cognitive ability questions. Kenton is very knowledgeable about writing and the CogAt. He's also super kind and patient with my children. My daughters really enjoy their sessions with him and since they started working with Kenton, their confidence about writing long essays got boosted and I can see great improvement in my kids' school grades. Kenton is always available and very motivated. I'm truly happy that I found him. I highly recommend him as a terrific writing tutor for elementary and middle school students. Eva, a happy mother.
