I enjoy tailoring my tutoring to the individual needs of each student. My students have attended public, private, charter, and home schools, and I have worked with students with various learning differences, including ADHD, processing delays, and dyslexia.

Here is a glowing testimonial!
(I have many others - Wyzant only lets us include one)

"Thank you for your wonderful help with both of our children- Catherine improved on her ACT test scores from a 19 to a 25; she received many great offers and chose University of Portland. With the scholarship she earned we are well below the cost of a state university.

Marty did even better; going from a 17 to a 25- he has now been accepted to all 8 of his schools - and has received offers totaling over $80,000.

We have one more for in a few years!! Your help and expertise has helped not only our children but us as well!"

More about me:
I have a bachelor's of science in molecular biology from the University of California, Davis, and completed two years of graduate studies in environmental microbiology at UC Santa Barbara. During college, I tutored fellow undergraduates in biology, biochemistry, and genetics. After my studies, I traveled to Central America and volunteered to help homeless teens living in a group home in Nicaragua.

After I left grad school for medical reasons, I discovered private tutoring was a great match for my skills, expertise, and passions. I truly enjoy working with students individually to help them surmount the many challenges school places in their paths.

I moved to Portland nine years ago, and I have been tutoring and teaching ever since. In addition to tutoring, I worked for the SUN program in Portland tutoring in their after-school program. I developed and taught the Magnificent Microbes and Introduction to Biotechnology class for Saturday Academy during the summers of 2009, 2010, and 2011. I also teach microbiology, forensic science, and marine biology for Saturday Academy and local elementary schools.

I am also an accomplished musician (voice, various instruments) and I would love to work with more students who are studying music theory and voice!

I look forward to working with your student! Please contact me if you have any questions.

NOTE: Due to increased interest in my services, I now offer tutoring services online. I am happy to provide a free 15 min demo of the virtual tutoring platform. I do not travel to students' homes.

Patient and communicative tutor.

Annie is working with my son on various high school writing skills. He is a reluctant writer and he is responding well to Annie's approach which involves understanding what the student is interested in and using that as a spark for otherwise hated work. He has done more work for Annie than he seems to do in his English class at school. I'm pleased that Annie is getting through to him when we (parents & teachers) can't.

Slow and Steady

Who is all ready to graduate but saved math for the last class, THIS GUY! I needed to brush up my math skills and dust my brain of the cob-webs. It is hard to choose a tutor that you feel will take the time to assist you in what you need, let alone have the patience to work with an adult. I found the Perfect tutor in Annie, she was patient, had great pacing when it came to teaching, and answered all questions during our sessions. Hey adults, if you are thinking of polishing the math rust away, then Super Annie is on her way to save the day! Thank you Annie!

Brenton, 11 lessons with Anne
Tutor responded:

Thanks Brenton! I'm so glad all of your hard work paid off. Congratulations!

5 stars!

My student says, "Anne was unbelievably helpful. My grade improved from a C to a B thanks to Anne." Mom says, "I had a meeting at my student's school and her math teacher said that my student's math performance had improved dramatically. I hadn't even told her about tutoring!" We recommend Anne to any student struggling with math. She was reliable and on time and made learning easy. Thanks Anne!

Well prepared and left my son feeling confident!

Anne came prepared and ready to give some great algebra 1 help. When she left after the first lesson my son felt confident he would be successful in math - he even bragged after coming home from school the next day how he was able to answer questions other students couldn't. Thanks Anne!
