Hello and "Konnichi wa" Language Learners,
I have been teaching both Japanese and ESL to students in grades PreK-12 – mostly high school – and to adult language learners for over 20 years. I hold NYS teacher certification in both areas. I love being a teacher. I love meeting and getting to know new people and sharing my interests with others who want to learn. I am patient, well-organized, and reliable.
One thing that is probably a little unusual is that I also used to be a musician and a music teacher. So, I often use songs in our lessons to help students learn and remember words and language patterns. Over the years, I have taught hundreds and hundreds of students and I know that there are hundreds of personalities and preferences for learning. I am a flexible teacher with a full “bag of tricks” – teaching techniques that can help make learning easy and enjoyable. I look forward to personalizing our lessons to make this a great learning experience for you.
I am a native English speaker with experience teaching hundreds of language learners. For over 10 years, I taught students from over 40 different countries at an international high school. I also meet with adult English language learners from my local library. I want to learn about you, your country, and your cultural background and I will help you to develop English language skills for life in America – for basic day-to-day needs, for work, or to prepare for further academic study.
Currently, I teach Japanese at Westchester Community College. As a non-native speaker with many years of teaching experience, I understand from my own experience the types of things that are difficult for non-native speakers to understand about Japanese. And I can explain them to you very clearly so that you will understand them too.
But our lessons aren’t just about understanding how the Japanese language works. We will use fun activities to speak, listen, read, and write Japanese. I have some particularly useful and unique techniques for helping you with reading and writing.
I'm flexible in my teaching style. I can teach Japanese with songs and movement (I'll bring my guitar if it can help you to learn).
I'm located in White Plains, NY. Do you have any questions and want to talk? Are you feeling like I'm the right teacher for you and want to schedule a first lesson?
I'm looking forward to hearing from you! Hello and "Konnichi wa" Language Learners,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received NYS certification in "English to Speakers of Other Languages" on 9/1/2000. Since that time, I taught ESL at the high school level for the East Ramapo Central School District, taught at an international public high school in New York City, and worked with adult learners in English Conversation classes at the White Plains public library.
I received NYS certification in "Japanese 7-12" and also received the NYS "Japanese N-6/Pre K-6 Extension" on 2/1/2002. I have been teaching Japanese primarily at the high school level but also at the elementary and middle school level since 1995. I also tutor private students.
