Hi, I’m Kiyan (“key-on”). I recently graduated magna cum laude from Princeton University with a degree in Neuroscience and a minor in Cognitive Science on the pre-medical track. I have received numerous academic honors in the past, including being a National Merit Finalist as well as an AP Scholar with Honor. I received a perfect score of 800 on the math portion of the SAT and have received high grades in all the required pre-medical coursework. This has given me proficiency in a wide range of STEM subjects including biology, neuroscience, chemistry, math, and physics.
I began remotely tutoring low-income middle and high school students in English and the sciences during the pandemic through a volunteer organization called Hatch Tutors. For a year, I worked one-on-one with students over Zoom, helping them navigate academic challenges during a difficult time. After that, I continued tutoring in person at Princeton, working privately with fellow students on a range of pre-medical subjects over the next three years. I have experience tutoring students from a wide range of ages including elementary schoolers in grade 2 all the way up to college seniors struggling with pre-medical coursework.
When I tutor, I focus on presenting material as clearly and simply as possible at the start, building a strong foundation before gradually introducing more complex concepts. I actively encourage students to ask questions whenever they feel uncertain or need clarification, as this is essential to meaningful learning. With a background in Cognitive Science, I incorporate evidence-based study techniques and teaching strategies to enhance understanding and long-term retention of the material I present. I also pay close attention to how each student responds to different approaches so that I can tailor my methods to best suit each of their individual learning style and needs.
I am easy to reach so don't hesitate to contact me if you're interested in a lesson or if you have any questions!
