Recent academic accomplishments include teaching Signal Processing for the Electrical Engineering Dept. at Columbia University, Electronic Prototyping at Parsons School of Design, and publication in the Proceedings of the 2015 International Conference on Computing Techniques and Mechanical Engineering (ICCTME).

I started teaching professionally in the Marine Corps. I taught Electronic Warfare, Land Survival and Safety. Now I teach High School students, College students, and young men and women attempting to enter the armed forces and medical training programs. I am blessed; I love this work.

In the service, I was an Electronic Warfare Instructor; I also taught Radar Intercepts at Naval Fighter Weapons School, Miramar, CA, and Fallon Naval Air Station, NV. I was a Land Survival Instructor of Aviation Officer Candidates at the U.S. Navy Flight School, Pensacola, FL; I was a Captain, Honorably Discharged, and I am a Veteran of the 1st Gulf War. I taught Electronic Counter-Counter Measures (ECCM) in the Persian Gulf and Tactical Digital Data Link Architecture at White Sands Missile Test Range, NM.

Since then, I have served as a Volunteer Math Tutor at Spring Hill Elementary School (where my daughter then went to school.) I also taught at CMU's Robotics Camp. I have tutored Chemistry and Geometry for students from the Centers for Advanced Study (CAS) program at Taylor Alderdice High School, and taught courses in Robotics and Environmental Science in the Steel Center High School's evening Honors Program.

I worked for two years at Pressley Ridge Therapeutic Wilderness Camp/Secondary Grade School, as a Teacher/Counselor and Supervisor for at-risk youth, so I had current PA Act 33/34 clearances, and am a certified Adult Basic Education (ABE) Instructor with the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council (GPLC.)

I thought that I had I developed good study skills in college, but I did not realize what great study skills were, until I went through U.S. military flight training and became a Naval Aviator. That's when I realized that the individual student has the power to identify their individual learning styles and tailor their study materials and techniques to their own advantage. Study Skills is a specific curriculum that I teach, at Huntington Learning Center. I have also taught Study Skills for High School students at the Pressley Ridge Schools, in Pennsylvania.

Chemistry,

Chemistry

I have been tutoring Chemistry for the past decade, and Chemistry has been a big part of my life, since working as a Food Scientist for General Foods, back in the 1980's. I had the honor of working on the "Mountainberry Punch" variety of Kool-Aid, as a matter-of-fact; which any Kool-Aid enthusiast will tell you, was the finest variety of Kool-Aid ever produced! I studied advanced Chemistry in the Environmental Engineering curriculum, at my Alma Mater, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU.) While I was employed as an Engineer at CMU, I was a member of the team that deployed the NASA Dante II robot to an Alaska volcano, to sample the Hydrogen Sulfide and Sulfur Dioxide content of the steam emanating from the fumeroles in the volcano. I am looking forward to helping you or your child excel in Chemistry class, and to helping you find the connections between Chemistry class and real life. Thanks for your consideration!

Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry I love teaching Geometry, and I'm sure I can help you. Geometry means "Earth Measurement", and it was developed by the Egyptians. Every year, the Nile would flood their farmlands, covering everything with a thick layer of silt. They had to come up with a reliable way to figure out where the property lines had been, so they could get back to the business farming...thus was born Geometry. The principles remain unchanged, and I made my living for several years in mine surveying. Accurate mine surveying is a matter of life-and-death, as the rescue of the trapped miners in Chile demonstrated. A good background and confidence in Geometry is also crucial if you're interested in any branch of Engineering or Chemistry (e.g.: 3-D chemical bond agles.) Thanks for your interest! -Tim Hegadorn
Physics,

Physics

I studied Physics at Carnegie Mellon University, in Pittsburgh. The first time I really appreciated having retained some of what I studied was at Flight School, in Pensacola. Everything in Aerodynamics and Navigation was straight out of Physics class! I love teaching Physics, and a good education in Physics will DEFINITELY help, with all your other science classes. I have been tutoring Physics every year, for the last eight years. Thanks for considering working with me; I look forward to speaking with you!
Precalculus,

I have been teaching precalculus and college calculus for several years. My own course of study was rigorous; it was taught at Carnegie Mellon University. At the time, I wished I had had a head start, studying calculus in high school with a tutor.

I took the SAT exam in the late 70s, when I was in High School. Preparing for the SAT exam was unheard of, amongst my peers, back then. Now that I see what a benefit it was to me, (my SAT score got me into Carnegie Mellon University,) I take great pleasure in helping young people take advantage of the benefits of an outstanding SAT score. I have been helping young people prepare for this exam for over ten years, and I am supremely confident that I can help you and your child succeed!

Professional, polite, patient, and knowledgeable, Timothy took as much time as it required to make sure all aspects of the lessons and then some was covered. My son loved him as a tutor, and looks forward to him coming. He states " Timothy is an awesome tutor". Thanks Timothy for a job well done.
