I am preparing for a PhD program in (pure) mathematics. Previously I co-founded a robotics startup in Silicon Valley and worked on it for 8 years, serving some of the largest tech companies in the world, and helped generating 9 robotics patents.
Before that I did one year of teaching, through my experience as a Teaching Fellow of AI and Robotics at Singularity University (a technology education group in Silicon Valley), and as a grad student at Georgia Tech. The group size I worked with ranges from a few to over a hundred. My teaching style aims for intuition, clarity and fun, and I enjoy converting abstract ideas into concrete playable examples. Moreover, I make an effort to stimulate students' intrinsic motivation. I believe the best teaching enables students to discover their internal strength and reveals their hidden potential.
1. Mathematics: I can teach all mathematics subjects in the US K-12 curriculum and common general college-level math courses. Beyond that it depends on the depth of your courses.
2. Programming and robotics: given my experience, of course I can teach these subjects.
3. Chinese: I am a native Chinese speaker, both in Mandarine and Cantonese. I never taught language before, but I bet it will be fun. For this one, I'm happy to give discounts.
Note: I am tutoring out of good will and for cutting my daily costs, not for making a living, hence I've set the rate towards the lower end. If you are on a tight budget and you don't need too much time, I'm willing to consider a deeper discount.
Interesting fact: there was a time that I was very uncomfortable with mathematics :)
Education:
Ph.D. Candidate in biomechanics, Georgia Tech (dropped out to start a robotics company);
B.S. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, from a top-5 university in China
