Hi! I'm Zavier, and I'm a junior working towards an Economics/Philosophy undergraduate degree at Hamilton College. I found my passion for tutoring in high school, where I helped organize the school-wide tutoring program as vice president of the NHS, and I've tutored professionally for over 500 hours. My approach centers on simplifying hard concepts by providing examples relevant to my students' lives and sharing my enthusiasm for the material. I love the magic moment when a difficult math problem "clicks", and I understand the frustration of not getting the way a teacher explains something, so I strive to make tutoring sessions interactive and adjust my approach to meet students' needs.

I have four years of volunteer experience and one year of professional experience tutoring Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, SAT prep, and Economics. Typical sessions will involve mutually working through homework or practice problems - I focus on asking good questions to help the student think through the process and arrive at the answer on their own. My lecturing similarly involves questions and examples to help the student make connections. While teaching trigonometry graphs, we might look at yearly daylight cycles, and I've found that using time, money, or something a student collects for algebraic equations, rather than x and y, makes the purpose of learning math clearer. Other experience includes four years of lifeguarding, where I've gained communication and supervision skills. I've scored 5s on AP Calculus AB, Calculus BC, US History, Computer Science A, CS Principles, Statistics, and Macroeconomics; 4s on Microeconomics and Physics E/M; a 35 on the ACT, and a 1510 on the SAT.
