Because I developed a passion for teaching, I recently returned to graduate school and obtained a PA teaching certification in Biology & Chemistry as well as a Master's Degree in multicultural education. Prior to this, I spent over a decade in the field of medical technology educating diverse adult learners and managing a large sales territory within the U.S. and Canada. I have a passion for teaching the sciences to all ages and enjoy making lesson material both creative and interesting for each of my students.
For my high school students: I was Athlete of the Year my senior year (cross country/track/swimming), graduated as a high honor student and attended a top University that continues to remain high in national rankings. I completely understand the challenges that come with dedicating one's time to both academics and sports!
For my college & career bound students: I was a Biology Major/Chemistry minor (yes, I even took Organic chemistry!) and am also a coach on presentations and interviews (whether college or career). During undergrad, I was a rush counselor for my sorority and an 11-time All American for Women's Varsity Swimming. The most important thing that I learned was how to manage my time between school, sports and then everything else. Sometimes, you just need a different explanation of the material (other than your professor) and/or a more strategic way to make the most out of your classroom time so that you can move on and enjoy all of the other aspects of life.
The goal is to determine what material you need assistance with and what learning strategies you can develop under my wing so that you can proceed with your coursework, independently. I look forward to meeting you! "She explains things in a way that I get it", explained by my daughter after her last tutoring session. Before starting tutoring, she failed a quiz. The quiz she took after starting tutoring with Lauren was an "A"! I would highly recommend her!
Lauren has been fabulous with our daughter. She has been helping out daughter with AP Chemistry and has really connected with out daughter. Lauren immediately recognized that our daugther was comfortable with math and was able to explain Chemistry problems with a math focus. She is extremely organized and prepared for every session. Her patience is unbelievable and is very meticulous in walking my daughter through a chemistry problem. Her flexibility and willingness to help our daughter is amazing. Our daugther is loving AP chemistry and most importatnly has the confidence to approach complex problems because Lauren has such a great way in explaining the concepts. I would highly, highly recommend her as she is extremely dedicated to our child's success .
Lauren has helped me review for 2 of my chemistry tests, and made the content much easier to understand. Fabulous tutor!
Lauren helped prepare our daughter for her advanced biology final, reviewing significant concepts in anatomy and physiology. I was extremely impressed by the amount of background work and preparation that Lauren did for each tutoring session. She not only helped my daughter in learning the concepts, but Lauren also built up my daughter's confidence as she approached her exam. I only wish we had contacted Lauren earlier in the year! Would highly recommend Lauren for tutoring!
I got to go over everything I needed to, Had finals the next day and we zoomed through Biology quickly and fun! and am super prepared for my finals now !I still remember Co2 rich blood goes into the right atrium to the right ventricle, then through the pulmonary artery for gas exchange into oxygen, goes back to left atrium, then left ventricle, then out the aorta to the body... ALL BY MEMORY YAY!!!!
Our son has struggled all year with Biology. With just two lessons with Lauren, he has already grasped major concepts and learned specifics in a topic that has frustrated him since September. Lauren is an excellent teacher, patient and enthusiastic, showing the material in a different light that stays with my son after the lesson is over. We have had many tutors over the years - Lauren is hands down the best tutor our son has ever had.
Lauren spent a lot of time preparing for the lesson and all the lessons. She made anatomy diagrams with a wordbank for my son to practice for his midterm. Great lesson! I was really afraid that my son wouldn't pass his midterm..... With Lauren's help, he received a 91!
Lauren was very helpful in teaching my son 10th grade Biology. The matetial currently being learned is difficult, however, Lauren taught the science material perfectly. She was patient & kind as well. I believe she truly cares in helping my son. We will definitely be using her services again! Thank you Lauren & Wyzant!!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
If you need an algebra 1 tutor and you fear your child may also struggle in the sciences, or if you need a science tutor and recognize that maybe it is the math portion of the science that is affecting your child's grade, then you have found a tutor who can work with your child in both subjects!
I taught a semester of 12th grade Human Anatomy & Physiology and I completed an animal physiology course that counted towards my biology major.
I am a Biology Major/Chemistry Minor with a passion for the sciences. In addition, I am recently certified to teach secondary science (Biology and Chemistry) in the state of PA. Last, my Masters of Education Degree has a multicultural focus; this means that I am prepared to meet the educational demands of a diverse group of learners.
I am currently certified to teach Chemistry for grades 7-12 in the state of Pennsylvania. Although a chemistry minor through my undergraduate degree, I like to point out to my students that I found success in chemistry even though I did not plan to pursue a career in chemistry (and they can too!). I have also found that students who struggle in certain chemistry topics may also find math difficult as well (in particular, Algebra). It is a pleasure to work with students on difficult chemistry topics and watch them master what was once a learning obstacle!
I taught a semester of 12th grade physiology and completed courses in anatomy and physiology in order to fulfill the requirements to become a B.S. Biology major.
