I am experienced in working one-on-one with students in all elementary and middle school grades - particularly math, pre-algebra, spelling, grammar, reading, phonics, and writing. I also work with high school students with algebra I, geometry, language arts, and SAT/ACT math and verbal. I can work with students on school assignments, projects, and homework - or I can provide material to help them master areas of difficulty. I can also help students find clever ways to memorize facts in any school subject.
As a former curriculum developer, I am more than familiar with the NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards, Common Core Standards (NY/NJ has adopted these for math and language arts), and how to craft individual learning to best aid the student. Ultimately all students must take and pass these state assessments. While aiding your student move forward, I will also ensure that these standards are addressed.
My unique experiences include working with students in the classroom as a teacher, as a paid private tutor, and as a group and private tutor for a nationally recognized SAT prep company. Additionally, I have volunteered as a tutor for various urban schools. As an undergraduate I created a GEPA 8 (now NJ Ask 7/8) tutoring program where high risk students were tutored weekly for 6 intensive hours. There was a substantial increase - as over 80% of those students passed.
Using my technology background, I have taught classes in MS Office, including MS Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and combing programs to make maximum use of the MS Office suite.
My goal would be to make sure your child is poised for educational success by first assessing what your child knows, crafting an individualized plan, and building confidence by using a variety of educational materials and technology, as well as provide a summative progress report you. I am very pleased with the work Michelle has done with my son. I have as well as his teachers has seen growth and improvement! My son's confidence level has skyrocketted since working with Michelle. His teachers has expressed deeply the improvement they have seen in my son and I am so pleased with his progess and continued work and success!! His confidence level played a key role in not only knowing but understanding its ok to ask for help! i would definitely recommend Michelle she knows how to adapt to each childs needs!!!
Michelle was very helpful and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend her to anyone in need of an algebra tutor. Very courteous and has the perfect demeanor for a tutor. Strives to succed with your child. Made herself available to my job upon completion of our first session.
Michelle is a Tutor that is positive and professional! She is patient and my daughter always came away after the session with a good experience. We used her for ACT prep, specifically math.
Thank you for the review!
My daughter started the 9th grade this year and struggled with her Algebra 1 class. I was very concerned and needed help for my daughter who started failing the class. I've met with high-profiled tutors and was not impressed nor satisfied. So, I started searching for websites that were dedicated and had a common goal. I came across the WyzAnt Tutoring site and was impressed. After meeting with our tutor to discuss what was needed and how to reach our goal of passing the course, but importantly being comfortable and not afraid to take on the task. Our Tutor not builded my daughter self-esteem but allow my daughter confidence spread her wings. After several sessions I noticed my daughter attitude changed and interest in the course increased when doing her homework, classwork etc. I seen her grades go from 55% to 78%; increased to the highest of 91%.
Wyzant Tutors are sincere, dedicated, hard working, and affordable.
I think michelle is an excellent tutor. In just the short time I have known her, I think she is gonna make a huge diffrence in my daughter's education and the material she is learning. My daughter did so well the first lesson with michelle. Thanks!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught Adobe InDesign as a general class for 5 years. Additionally, I have used for over 8 years in my layout and design work in conjunction with the Adobe Master Collection on project such as yearbook design, posters, and other graphic design tasks. I have gone to many of the Adobe seminars held in NYC, as well as other InDesign specific classes/seminars throughout the years.
I have tutored Algebra I and II for over 10 years in a high school setting. Additionally, as a college student, I tutored other college students who were placed into Algebra I and II (mainly freshmen).
I tutor Algebra I and II on a custom basis, starting with beginning concepts to make sure the student fully comprehends the foundations and then move forward to where they currently are in school. It is imperative that students do not fall behind in Algebra I and II because all of the concepts build upon the previous concept.
I have taught elementary school grades K-3. I have also tutored extensively in grades K-6, in particular with reading, writing, mathematics, spelling, and phonics.
Tutoring has happened on a 1-to-1 basis as well as in a group setting (of no more than 8 children). Tutoring in grades 3-6 also focused on the NJ ASK and prep for that test in addition to regular classwork/homework, organization, study skills and reinforcing topics covered in the classroom environment.
