Hello and thank you for viewing my tutoring profile! My name is Barbara and I'm a licensed high school physics teacher with 17 years of experience tutoring students, especially those who need an alternative way to learn the material. I take what the student already knows and build on it – I find that this makes them feel comfortable and confident that they can learn the material. In the beginning, I take time to find the student’s optimal method of learning, whether it’s by the traditional route of reading the material or if he or she can learn better through auditory, visual, logical, tangible or even mathematical methods. The student will understand the material on a highly intellectual level and feel great about his or herself.
*Please note that my fee is for high school college prep level classes. Honors-level classes are billed at $75.00/hr, as are first year college classes. Higher-level Calculus, Physics, and Organic Chemistry classes are billed at $100.00/hr. Hello and thank you for viewing my tutoring profile! After one session, my son had a better grasp of Calc 2. The light bulb went on. We watched our son's confidence build. Barbara was very accommodating to our son's busy schedule. We will definitely be using her for Chemistry 2 sessions.
Barbara was great. She instantly made my daughter feel at ease. Her schedule is very accommodating. I definitely recommend her and will continue to use her services.
Barbara was a terrific tutor. She helped my son gain a better understanding of AP Physics concepts. I highly recommend Barbara to students struggling with physics.
Barbara always came extremely prepared for every lesson, taking care of a lot of the notes before hand, so as to make the most of the time spent together during the lesson. She was very knowledgeable, and always willing to work at whatever pace was comfortable for me, making sure I had a complete understanding of the subject matter. Barbara tutored me mainly in college level calculus, but still showed the ability to teach a wide range of math and physics subjects throughout our lessons.
Barbara was right on time & very helpful to my daughter. She clearly has a broad base of knowledge which she tapped into during the tutoring session. Barbara reviewed what my daughter was currently covering in class & gave her assistance not only with the material being covered, but also with study tips. We will certainly use Barbara throughout the year.
Barbara tutored my daughter in her college MicroBiology course. When my daughter first went to her, she was struggling with the course and was just about passing. Having always done very well in school, my daughter was beside herself. Her first test right after the first session, she got a 90!. Barbara took the time to show her study skills, "tricks" for learning the material, and most of all the confidence she was lacking. She met with Barbara a total of 4 sessions. This being a summer course, there was quite a bit of material to cover in a short amount of time. In the end, my daughter went from a C- to a B in the course! I was so lucky to have found Barbara and highly recommend her. She is very professional, patient, understanding of the student's needs, and very proficient in her subject area. Barbara always responded quickly to any e-maiI or phone call. I will definitely use Barbara again if there is a need. To sum it up, Barbara was "awesome"
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The MCATs include four topics: Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems; Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems; Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior; and Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills. I'm a certified NJ physics teacher, and have a degree in physics as well as a minor in biology. That minor was acquired by going to nursing school, and so my classes were directly aligned with the medical field. Additionally, I have work experience and research experience in neurology, with classes in psychology as well. I've already successfully tutored the MCATs through my private tutoring business, and I feel I can help more students through WyzAnt.
I've personally taken two different Praxis tests - one for general science and one for physics. These were a requirement for getting my NJ Physics teacher certification. The general science test was a comprehensive test that covered biology, chemistry and physics. The physics test covered all of the concepts covered in first year calculus-based physics. I passed both tests on the first try, which is particularly significant for the physics test, as it has a very high failure rate. I also have experience tutoring the Praxis test successfully.
