My name is Obinna. I am a math teacher with over 20 years of experience working with students at all levels, from elementary grades to college. I have extensive teaching experience on the high school level and spent many years tutoring college students in both remedial and college level math courses. In college, I studied mathematics and science culminating in a degree in engineering. I love math. It is all around us. We experience the math of the world in subtle, yet important ways. A keen understanding of mathematics allows you to see the world completely different from those that don’t understand. I personally use math each and every day.

I describe my teaching style as hands-on. Students come to me with diverse backgrounds in their understanding of the subject. I strive to gain an understanding of what is known as well as what is not well understood. I then craft my interactions with my student such that we begin to build a deep understand from their current level. My goal with every lesson is for students to go beyond simply knowing how to do the math. Students will understand why we do it the way we do it and why it works. When you learn the “why” of the math, the foundation is built so strong as to never be shaken.

Having passed the Praxis II and taught Mathematics for over 10+ years, I am confident that I will be able to assist. I have a strong familiarity with the Praxis 5161 Mathematics test for secondary math teacher certification.

I enjoyed my tutor hour with Obinna, we worked on an assessment I bombed on Fractions. Obinna was patient and he actually worked the problems with me, where I either gave him what my thoughts on solving the problem or worked the problem real time while he waited. I liked the way he inserted tips to use and listened to me even though he knew I was wrong!
