Hello, and welcome to my studio! My name is Marlena, and I have been playing French horn for 12 years. I am a masters student at Rutgers University, and am currently working on my degree in French horn performance. Before I decided to get my masters degree, I freelanced across South Florida with orchestras like The South Florida Symphony, the Florida Grand Opera, the Palm Beach symphony, and the Palm Beach Opera. I specialize in audition prep, playing test prep, and college audition prep.

My love for the French horn has given me so many extraordinary opportunities. I have a passion for music, and I love nothing more than being able to share that passion with others who are willing to learn. The French horn is not an easy instrument to play, but I believe that it is the most powerful instrument in the orchestra. There is a deeply profound satisfaction that one could find playing the horn, and I would love to help those who wish to embark on that journey.

I have taken 4 years of rigorous music theory and history courses at the Manhattan School of Music, along with weekly private lessons from the 3rd horn player of the Metropolitan Opera. I am graduating this May from MSM with my undergraduate degree in French horn performance, and am continuing my education at MSM in hopes of achieving my Masters in Orchestral French horn performance. I graduated high school from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with an Artist's diploma. I have tutored students between the ages of 12-17 years old at various schools across the east coast, and am comfortable tutoring younger students as well. French horn is my passion, and I am well qualified to aid students in their quest for French horn greatness!

I have taken 5 years of guitar lessons. I regularly play gigs on guitar, and I know the fundamentals required for guitar playing. There are currently two students in my studio who I have taught for over a year, and I would love to expand!

Piano

I have taken two years of piano lessons at the Manhattan School of Music. I study with a DMA Student (Doctorate of Music Arts) who gave me a solid foundation of piano playing. I specialize in the fundamentals of piano playing, with a focus on technique. I currently have one student in my studio, and am looking to expand!

We found our French horn teacher!

Marlena was very friendly, informative, and super patient. Also she is cheerful so makes the lesson much more fun. We had some bad experience with learning music via zoom in the past so I didn’t know what to expect. But our 11 year daughter really loved the class.
