For the last 16 years, I have lived in Moscow, Russia teaching English to Russians. In that time I have become very adept at teaching and very knowledgeable about language(especially English and Russian).
My strong backgound in language with 4 years of Latin, 3 years of French and 16 years of teaching English as a foreign language in Moscow Russia, meeting IH-London standards with annual observations for continual improvement in my teaching enable me to give you high quality English lessons.

My diploma in Russian language, 14 weeks of immersion in the Russian language in Vermont and 6 weeks of living in the Soviet Union in Leningrad gave me a very strong basis in Russian language which I built on and practised for the 16 years I lived in Moscow.

I love teaching for two main reasons: 1) because I love spending time on language and understanding it more deeply and seeing all the relations between languages, both in vocabulary and logic, and seeing the way different cultures view things in life their unique way and how it is reflected in their language. 2) because seeing people grow, learn and be able to do something that previously they were completely unable to do is something amazing and magic to me.To see someone go from understanding nothing as I speak to them in the language I am teaching them to being able to understand and produce in it 45 minutes later is amazing!

My strongest assets are: 1) my deep knowledge and natural talent for seeing the logic within language and between languages-this greatly helps the students understand and remember vocabulary better and understand the logic of the grammar. 2) I have spent more than 16 years abroad communicating with non-English speakers. 3) I really enjoy working with people and that is reflected in the atmosphere and attitude in the lessons.

If you need beginning grammar, vocabulary and simple practise, or you need to practise fluency in speech and listening with grammar and word choice correction or anything in between contact me for interesting lessons bringing your English up to whatever level you need or desire. We can meet at your convenience anywhere in the Raleigh area, including Durham and especially Cary. Looking forward to teaching you!

I am a native English speaker, being American. I have taught ESL in Moscow for the last 15 years with a CELTA (Cambridge English Language Teaching Award). I taught for a branch of IH-London and our teaching standards had to be up to IH-London standards. We had annual observations by a director of studies in our school, which had about 130 teachers. I passed all observations with satisfactory or above. With my vast experience, learning several languages(4 years of Latin, 3 years of French, a diploma in Russian, and learning languages such as Spanish and German just for fun) I understand language, especially Indoeuropean languages, deeply and understand acquisition of language(the knowledge, thinking, related vocabulary between languages, etc.) very well. In Moscow I had a lot of private students, which is basically tutoring. And I still have 3 private students in Moscow that have Skype lessons with me each week.

I have a B.A. in Russian language from a very good university-U.N.C. Chapel Hill. During my studies there I went through 2 immersion programs of living in Russian language-14 weeks at Norwich University's Summer Russian program and 6 weeks of living and studying Russian with Professors from Leningrad University in Leningrad during the soviet period. I speak Russian fluently now as I have lived in Moscow for the last 15 years. And as for teaching I know teaching methodology very well because I have a CELTA teaching degree in ESL and have been doing it for more than 15 years. I also understand language and the learning of it very well because I studied Latin for 4 years, French for 3 years and have learned spanish and German and others just for fun on my own.

Another Good Lesson

Per usual, the lesson made me feel I was moving forward. I'm looking forward to when these endless grammatic endings do finally end, but I'm confident things will begin making sense intuitively just as I speak English. George is a good teacher.

Very patient and breaks things down for your learning style

I am someone who speaks decent Russian (and has friend to speak with) but has trouble with grammar and wanted a native English speaker to teach me grammar. George know grammar so well and can break it down different ways for an audio learner like me. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had in Russian. I highly recommend him and his intuitive teaching style

knowledgeable tutor

I am a beginner learning Russian and this was my first lesson with George. I was looking for some structure in my learning process and I think I've found it! I have scheduled another lesson and can't wait!

Helping so far!

I like that George learned Russian as an adult, gives me hope that I can too! He is very knowledgeable about the Russian language and is trying his best to teach my old mind!

Top Notch, Incredibly Knowledgeable

Great to work with and really strives to get you where you want to be. George and I will be on our 3rd tutoring lesson today. I must say, I am thrilled with where I am in the learning process, even after 2 full sessions. He's extremely competent and, personally, I feel that he will get me to what level of Russian I want to attain as swiftly as possible. GREAT GUY!

George was great!

He is highly intelligent and very patient. I am already studying Russian and he adapted to my curriculum and determined areas of focus that will be most beneficial for me. With his extensive knowledge of multiple languages, he helped me to understand the vocabulary from multiple view points, helping me to learn a few words at a time, instead of just one.

Knowledgeable, flexible and friendly tutor

George is a knowledgeable and friendly tutor. He is very flexible in terms of location and schedule. We look forward to more sessions with him and would recommend him without hesitation.

Great first lesson!

George helped me with new verbs, pronunciation, conjugation, colloquialisms, and Russian culture. I gained a lot of Knowledge from this first lesson and look forward to learning more next time.

Excellent tutor!

I would highly recommend George as a tutor. He is very intelligent and easy to communicate with which is a big deal to me when learning a new language. Any subject or language skill that I brought up George new exactly what I was talking about. Mr. M is well versed in Latin which is a great help because he can break down words and show you the root and how they are similar to your native language. George lived in Russia for many years and speaks Russian as well as a native speaker. Look no further, you have found what you are looking for!
