Whatever course in Math (Prealgebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Precalculus, Calculus) and Science (Chemistry, Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology and Anatomy) you need help with, my long professional experience in the subject will help you reach your goals. From high school to college studies, I am also specialized in preparing specific subjects such as Honors and AP programs, and students and adults who wish to pursue a career in the medical field (MCAT, DAT, Nursing, PA, Physical Therapy, etc.).

I am a professional tutor with the highest degree of education. I also dedicate my time to prepare the classes thoroughly before the tutoring. Do not hesitate to contact me, I will be glad to assist you.

Here is a bit of my biography. Talk to you soon!

After a master's degree in Mathematics and Biochemistry, I was awarded two competitive national fellowships to teach for 4 years in a European university and study for a PhD in Biology and Biochemistry. After graduating with highest distinction, I took a position as a Postdoctoral fellow at UNC-Chapel Hill, where I undertook a 5-year research project in Biology and Biochemistry, which received a U.S. federal grant from the National Institutes of Health. I was then promoted to Research Assistant Professor, continued to teach Biology and Biochemistry at UNC for 4 years, and was the award winner of a year-round in-house oral presentation research contest in my Department.

I have experience in Scientific Writing, having published a dozen peer-reviewed scientific publications in international journals, and as Scientific Reviewer for the National Science Foundation (NSF) grant proposal evaluation process in the Molecular and Cellular Biosciences Division, and for Plant Cell, Plant Journal, Journal of Plant Physiology, Current Opinion in Plant Biology, Federation of European Biochemical Societies, Medical Science Monitor (2005-2010).

I also supervised and trained undergraduates at UNC in all the steps from thinking and building a scientific project around various scientific disciplines (Chemistry and Life Sciences), to obtaining and interpreting preliminary data and writing a successful competitive fellowship application. Under my mentoring, one of my research students was awarded two distinguished prizes: a Research Fellowship Program from the “Pfizer Global Research & Development Award”, and the “J.N. Couch Award for Excellence in Biology” at UNC-Chapel Hill. I was also a researcher in the biotechnology industry, in the Research Triangle Park, with a competitive fellowship from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center.

I teach elementary, high school, college students and adults who would like to take classes in Math, Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology and Anatomy for exam preparation, or for the purpose of filling a particular gap in the curriculum, acquiring more education and developing reasoning skills.

Having been a scientist for many years, learning to pay attention to detail, passing numerous exams all the way up to a PhD program, and obtaining several scholarships, fellowships and grants, I am extremely well prepared to guide you through the difficulties of understanding and reasoning you may face during your exam preparation, or grant applications.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I am very patient and prepare all my classes in advance in order to ensure that each of my students receive individualized attention, and that each student's specific learning needs are catered to. After explaining the concepts, training exercises are always part of a tutoring session, where everything is explained in depth on how to apply those concepts and avoid mistakes. With a Master's Degree in Math and 20 years of experience in tutoring concepts from Pre-Algebra to Pre-Calculus, I deliver a clear message, which combined with patience, understanding of my students’ needs, and a method of working and learning, builds up confidence and drive success, also preparing them for the next level in their career. I hope to work with you soon!

My students have scored as high as 99% on their finals. After each class you will know your concepts and will be able to apply them very quickly to Quizzes, Tests and Finals. With an MS and a PhD, and more than 15 years of experience in research and teaching in Biochemistry, I am very well trained in the field to guide you through all the difficulties you may have, and prepare you efficiently for your exams. I can help you succeed. I have published a dozen scientific publications in Biochemistry and Cell Biology, and can also help you with your reading and writing of scientific documents.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I love teaching Basic Math and Pre-Algebra because they are the building blocks of Mathematics. Working with positive and negative numbers (Arithmetic) is a pre-requisite before studying Algebra which introduces the notion of variables (when a symbol represents numbers). Too many students have not acquired these fundamental knowledges, and the negative impact is also seen many years later in high school and college. Pre-Algebra is about mastering the sets of numbers and the order of operations they are going to be involved in: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. Subtractions, and specially divisions which can take the form of a fraction, a mixed number or a decimal are what causes the most issues. Exponents, Square roots and Absolute values are concepts that need to be clearly explained as they are source of confusion that can last for a long time. When the four operations are fully understood, then comes the time to work with Percents and word problems with Fractions, Decimals and Percents. At this stage of the curriculum, students found difficult how to translate English language into Mathematical language, and they need proper guidance on how to address these questions. This type of translation will come back later with PSAT and SAT tests, as a prerequisite to successfully enter college. Basic Geometry will then encompass the use of Arithmetic to find out how to measure, calculate and recognize different shapes in 2 and 3 dimensions. Organic Chemistry,

Organic Chemistry

Why can I help you understand all the numerous concepts that you would need to master during your Organic Chemistry classes, from high school to college ? Because Organic Chemistry is the foundation to then study Biochemistry. The two main topics in Organic Chemistry are hydrocarbon molecules and the functional groups that give chemical activity to those molecules. Natural molecules are made of hydrocarbon and functional groups which are then studied in Biochemistry. In order to obtain a PhD in Biochemistry, studying Organic Chemistry in college was a must. I can assist you in providing guidelines on how to study the concepts, and how to efficiently apply them to your tests and exams. I can also prepare you if you would like to apply for medical related schools (MD, Nursing, PA, Dental, Chiropractic...etc).
Pharmacology,

Pharmacology

I have taught Pharmacology to college students in preparation for Health Care careers (MD, Nursing, PA, Dental, Physical Therapy, etc). My students graduated with an average grade of 98. Pharmacology is a complex subject that encompasses Physiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry and Regulations. During my Pharmacology classes, I have taught: Introduction to Pharmacology, Pharmacokinetics and Factors of Individual Variation, Math Review and Dosage Calculations, the Autonomic Nervous System, Drugs affecting the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Nervous System, the Central Nervous System and Pharmacology, Antipsychotic and Anti-anxiety Drugs, Opioid and Non-opioid Analgesics, Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatories and Anti-gout Drugs, Cardiac Physiology and Pathology, Treatment of Heart Failure, Anti-arrhythmic Drugs, Diuretics, Antihistaminic Drugs and Mast Cell Release Inhibitors, Respiratory Pharmacology, Treatment of Asthma, and COPD, Antibacterial Agents, Antifungal and Antiviral Drugs, Sedative-Hypnotic Drugs and Alcohol, Antiepileptic Drugs, Antidepressants Psychomotor Stimulants, and Lithium, Endocrine System, Antineoplastic Agents, Pancreatic Hormones and Anti-diabetic Drugs.

Knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly

Dr Patrick was very thorough on identifying my daughter's needs in Chemistry. He explained the differences in specific equations that would be deemed confusing, like molarity and molality. Dr. Patrick took into account my daughter’s processing time, and waited for her to fully understand everything she needed to know before moving onto the next topic. I will definitely be calling Dr Patrick again!

Awesome tutor, very committed!

Dr. Patrick has been teaching my son AP Chemistry. He was recently doing an online lesson and there was a problem with the network. Dr. Patrick went out of his way to get that fixed and waited for a long time although it was late night since my son had a test the following day! He is in general a very organized, knowledgeable and an excellent tutor. I would very highly recommend him.

The Most Helpful Tutor

Dr. Patrick was by far the most helpful tutor that i've ever had in my entire life. Not only does he improve your grade in the class, he makes sure that you fully understand the material before moving on. He is also a very good person as you can talk to him about personal matters. He improved my knowledge and grade significantly and i am very thankful for him.

Hyaijung, 30 lessons with Dr. Patrick

Great Teacher, Great Explanations

Dr. Patrick helped explain many complicated biochem topics in preparation for the Mcat. Very good teaching style with online whiteboard

Mikey, 17 lessons with Dr. Patrick

Very knowledgeable AP Chem

My son can be picky about tutors. He learns quickly and likes someone who teaches at his pace and explains things well. I was pleased that he said he was very happy with how his session went today. He said he learned more in one hour than in a week with his teacher. He will be going back again next week.

Lynne, 2 lessons with Dr. Patrick

A tutor professional.

Patrick is not only knowledgeable and dedicated but is very concerned about the outcome and my grandson connected to him favorably. He is well worth the investment.

Bob, 11 lessons with Dr. Patrick

Very knowledgeable, methodical, thorough and patient.

Dr. Patrick is very knowledgeable, methodical, thorough and patient when teaching a concept. He can cater teaching to the students of any level of understanding. His power point presentations are very effective. My 14 year old daughter had a few tutoring sessions with Dr. Patrick. She enjoyed all of them and felt that the sessions were very effective and helpful for her exams. She is looking forward to attending the tutorial classes for her sophomore AP chemistry and math subjects. I am so glad that I found an excellent, God sent tutor in Dr. Patrick.

Made Chemistry Exciting

Dr. Patrick's teaching method helped our daughter get excited about learning chemistry and to improve her grade with just few classes. She indicated how easy it is to understand the material with the way Dr. Patrick explained the subject. She has become more interested in chemistry and happy to go to her tutoring classes. We greatly recommend Dr. Patrick as a tutor.
