After a master's degree in Mathematics and Biochemistry, I was awarded two competitive national fellowships to teach for 4 years in a European university and study for a PhD in Biology and Biochemistry. After graduating with highest distinction, I took a position as a Postdoctoral fellow at UNC-Chapel Hill, where I undertook a 5-year research project in Biology and Biochemistry, which received a U.S. federal grant from the National Institutes of Health. I was then promoted to Research Assistant Professor, continued to teach Biology and Biochemistry at UNC for 4 years, and was the award winner of a year-round in-house oral presentation research contest in my Department.

Working with positive and negative numbers (Arithmetic) is a pre-requisite before studying Algebra which introduces the notion of variables (when a symbol represents numbers). Too many students have not acquired these fundamental knowledges, and the negative impact is also seen many years later in high school and college. Pre-Algebra is about mastering the sets of numbers and the order of operations they are going to be involved in: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. Subtractions, and specially divisions which can take the form of a fraction, a mixed number or a decimal are what causes the most issues. Exponents, Square roots and Absolute values are concepts that need to be clearly explained as they are source of confusion that can last for a long time. When the four operations are fully understood, then comes the time to work with Percents and word problems with Fractions, Decimals and Percents. At this stage of the curriculum, students found difficult how to translate English language into Mathematical language, and they need proper guidance on how to address these questions. This type of translation will come back later with PSAT and SAT tests, as a prerequisite to successfully enter college. Basic Geometry will then encompass the use of Arithmetic to find out how to measure, calculate and recognize different shapes in 2 and 3 dimensions. Great, Responsible, and a tutor who cares for his students

I am a college student on the pre-med track, and I reached out to Dr. Patrick for help on chemistry. He goes into depth on each topic and ensures there are no confusions when teaching. He also acknowledges any difficulty you are having and will go over the problem with you as often as needed. I had difficulty finishing my homework during the session, and he went out of his way to meet with me again until all topics were clear and my homework was complete. Amazing experience and results with Dr. Patrick V

I worked with Dr. Patrick V for my semester-long Introduction to Biochemistry course at my university. The first lesson I had with Dr. Patrick, I cried, not because he wasn't kind or knowledgeable, but because I knew my lack of biochemistry knowledge at that time would not produce a passing grade for the course. However, over the next 5 months, Dr. Patrick meticulously and expertly guided me through complex topics and I ended up receiving an A in the class. Great Results

When my son Gabriel got a D in the 2nd quarter of AP Bio, we found Dr. Patrick and scheduled 3 hours a week of tutoring. Dr. Patrick is an excellent tutor and helped Gabriel turn things around completely. The end results were an A in each of the next two quarters and a 4 in his AP Bio exam (as a sophomore), not to mention mastering the material, and gaining the confidence to tackle difficult tasks and do well.
