Whether you need help with biology courses, or specific guidance with test prep, or you just want to dive deeper into biology, I’m here to help you achieve these goals. My tutoring focuses on college level introduction to biology, cell biology, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, biology papers and AP biology.

I am a scientist and former professor with 20+ years of experience studying and researching biology. I have 12+ years of teaching experience in classroom settings, with small groups, and with one-on-one tutoring. I started teaching as a graduate student and then taught as a professor and research supervisor for several years. I have worked on three continents and with people from diverse cultural backgrounds. As an anecdote from my teaching experience, I taught microbiology and immunology in Massachusetts in early 2020. I led 52 students in acquiring scientific writing skills and in-depth knowledge of bacteriology, virology, and immunology. During the semester, COVID-19 necessitated everyone to move off campus, so I adapted all course content to an online format.

I bring 14+ years of expertise in research techniques, including recombinant DNA technology, RNA biology, and gene regulation. Most recently, I worked as a scientist and director for a molecular diagnostics company, giving me a lot of insight into the biotechnology industry. The best part of my role was mentoring young scientists and helping them succeed with their career goals.

While I love research, my true passion is presenting and teaching. I have presented science at more than 20 national and international conferences and won presentation awards. I consistently received excellent teaching reviews from my students. I specialize in making complex biological material easy to grasp by listening to your learning needs and by telling a story that makes sense.

Biology

Biology

I have an MSc in molecular life science and a PhD in molecular biology. I have 12+ years of teaching experience from first year through upper-level college courses, honors, as well as post-graduate courses. These include introduction to biology, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, applications of molecular biology, cell biology, and medical biotechnology. I have also supervised research projects and dissertations that resulted in honors and mentored 16+ research students. I have experience with teaching in classroom settings, virtual and fully remote settings, with teaching small groups of students and with 1:1 instruction and tutoring.
Career Development

Career Development

I have first-hand knowledge of the biotechnology industry, with experience providing technical leadership in a highly regulated diagnostic environment. As a former hiring manager and technical leader, I know what sets job candidates apart. I therefore provided career development workshops for 60+ technical staff at our diagnostic company. I have a PhD in molecular biology, with a deep understanding of academic teaching and research careers. I successfully transitioned from a purely academic to an industry career and am therefore uniquely suited to provide insight into crafting an industry specific resume and preparing for industry interviews. Throughout my career I’ve helped numerous students and direct reports navigate their graduate school applications, job searches, and interviewing skills to land roles in academia and the biotech sector. We’ll work together to develop any areas that need improvement, to identify your strengths and market them to specific careers. Previous Roles: Technical Director (biotech industry) R&D Scientist (biotech industry) Clinical Laboratory Supervisor (biotech industry) College Professor (undergraduate and graduate education, research)

USCIS

USCIS

As a naturalized U.S. citizen, I have a deep understanding of the naturalization process and current requirements (2025) for passing the USCIS interview and test. With 12+ years of teaching experience, I will use adult learning principles and study strategies to build on your individual learning style and level of understanding, and to ensure that we quickly improve your knowledge and confidence prior to the interview. The USCIS naturalization interview consists of three major parts, namely, an oral (not written) American civics and history test, an English language test (which assesses reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension skills), and an oral interview that includes questions regarding your N-400 application, eligibility to become a U.S. citizen, and personal history. I will guide you through all these elements. I know the 100 civics and history questions inside out and will help you understand all the answers. Having a teaching background and TOEFL certification, I can help you thoroughly prepare for the English component. I can prepare you for the interview component by discussing potential questions and other elements that occur during the interview. Having completed this journey myself, I care about your success!

Interview feedback and support given were perfect

I had an upcoming important interview for a lab production technician position and I was very nervous. I felt unprepared and anxious since I don't have much experience doing interviews, so I booked a tutoring session with Minoli. I chose Minoli because of her biotech and career development background and it was the right choice. We practiced some of the more common interview questions and some that were particular to my job position and she provided much-needed feedback. Thanks to her I felt much more prepared for the interview and managed to score a second one!
